چکیده

In this paper, a code-division multiple access (CDMA) cellular overlay system is investigated, employing the idea of multicarrier CDMA, which has recently received significant attention as an alternative to traditional single-carrier CDMA [1]. Overlay is pursued here as a means of long-term transition from narrowband cellular to CDMA cellular. A major result of this paper is the demonstration that the use of multicarrier CDMA in a fading channel is particularly beneficial to the narrowband system, as the CDMA users can reduce their transmitted powers as a result of diversity. Another significant conclusion is that the use of transmitter notching in the CDMA system in order to avoid active narrowband users outperforms a strategy in which a narrowband user is avoided by simply dropping the particular carrier which overlays it. Finally, recent results on the use of the minimum mean-squared error (MMSE) receiver in a fading channel are extended for use in the overlay scenario.

A novel multi-code multicarrier code division multiple access (MC-MC-CDMA) system is proposed and analyzed in a frequency selective fading channel. By allowing each user to tl'ansmit multiple orthogonal codes, the proposed MC-MCCDMA system can support various data rates, as required by next generation standards, and achieve spreading gain in the time domain. Multicarrier CDMA provides robustnes...

MC DS/SFH-CDMA systems for overlay systems

In this paper, we introduce the slow frequency hopping (SFH) technique to the multicarrier (MC) code-division multiple-access (CDMA) systems for overlay situations. Using lower chip rate, which results in a narrower spectrum for each carrier and hopping the signal in frequency, the MC direct sequence (DS)/SFH system achieves better performance than the MC DS CDMA system in most cases, especiall...

Synchronization sensitivity of multicarrier systems

In this paper, we give an overview of the sensitivity of a number of multicarrier systems to carrier and clock synchronization errors. A comparison is made between orthogonal frequency division multiplexing/multiple access (OFDM(A)) and two combinations of the orthogonal multicarrier technique and the code-division multiple access (CDMA) technique, i.e., multicarrier CDMA (MC-CDMA), where the s...

Throughput Improvement of STS-Based MC DS-CDMA System with Variable Spreading Factor

The throughput enhancement of Space-Time Spreading (STS)-based Multicarrier Direct Sequence Code Division Multiple Access (MC DS-CDMA) system is investigated in this paper. Variable Spreading Factor (VSF) is utilized to improve the data throughput of the system. In this contribution, an analytical approach is proposed to compute a new expression for the Bit Error Rate (BER) performance of t...
